The profession of the sommelier takes on the role of the pleasure expert in the upscale gastronomy and in the sophisticated wine trade. The sommelier's most important task is to competently advise the discerning guest or customer with the help of comprehensive wine knowledge and to provide assistance for a desired combination of food and wine.

Requirements

(1) Prerequisites for admission to the examination to become a certified Sommelier/Sommelière
in the field of gastronomy are:

Successfully completed training in the recognised training occupations of restaurant specialist or hotel specialist or cook
Restaurant specialist or hotel specialist or cook.
At least two years of relevant professional experience as a restaurant specialist or hotel specialist
Restaurant specialist or hotel specialist or at least one year's work experience as a chef
At least one year of professional experience as a chef and at least one further year of relevant professional experience,
which is conducive to further training as a certified Sommlier/Sommelière in the field of
Gastronomy.
If the prerequisites according to para. 1 no. 1 are not fulfilled, the examination candidate must have at least
must provide evidence of at least five years of relevant professional experience.
Notwithstanding sub-section 1, nos. 1, 2 and 3, candidates may also be admitted to the examination who
by submitting certificates or in some other way proves that he/she has

(2) Prerequisites for admission to the examination to become a certified sommelier are
in the field of trade are:

A successfully completed training in a recognised commercial training occupation
or a successfully completed training course in the recognised occupation of
Vintner.
At least one year of commercial work experience and at least one further year of relevant work experience
one year of relevant professional experience which corresponds to further training to become a certified sommelier
Sommelière in the field of commerce.
If the requirements according to Para. 2 No. 1 and No. 2 are not fulfilled, the candidate must have at least five years of professional experience
Applicant must provide evidence of at least five years of relevant professional experience,
which is conducive to further training as a certified sommelier in the field of commerce

In deviation from sub-section 2, nos. 1, 2 and 3, admission to the examination may also be granted to those who
