This advanced-level qualification is designed to give a throughout understanding of the factors that account for the style, quality and price of the principal still, sparkling and fortified wines of the world. 
The qualification provides an in-depth comprehension of tasting techniques and a detailed understanding of grape growing and winemaking.
It is considered a prerequisite for candidates planning to study for the WSET Level 4 Diploma.

Professionals in the hospitality and wine business needing core information to advise management and customers with authority and make informed selections of wines in a variety of situation.
Versed wine enthusiasts who wish to learn about wine in a rigorous and structured manner and gain an internationally-recognised wine qualification.

Unit 1
The key factors in the production of wine: location, grape growing, winemaking, maturation and bottling
How these key factors influence the key characteristics of the principal
Still wines of the world
Sparkling wines of the world
Fortified wines of the world
How to apply your understanding to explain wine style and quality
Unit 2
How to taste wines, describe their characteristics and evaluate their quality, using the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)

Recommended previous preparation
Before starting the course, candidates should have read the textbook and the coursebook. This course is challenging; therefore, we recommend at least 55 hours of self-study.

Assessment
The assessment takes place in the last session of the course.
Unit 1 is assessed by a closed-book exam of 50 multiple-choice questions and a short-written answer paper. Unit 2 is assessed by a blind tasting of two wines. A mark of 55% is required on both the tasting and theory papers to pass.

Entry requirements
This course is NOT suitable for beginners. It is recommended that you hold the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines and Spirits or can demonstrate the equivalent level of knowledge.
Candidate should be over 18 years of age.
